Amoc, or Mikkâl Antti Morottaja, has
created a new dimension to the Inari Sámi language by using
it in rap music. The style of the lyrics and performance of the
songs is aggressive and even scary, though his nature is not at
all such.
Mikkâl Antti Morottaja began rapping
in the 8th grade. He first rapped in Finnish, but changed the language
to Inari Sámi. He wanted people to hear Inari Sámi
because the language is not otherwise really heard anywhere. His
pen name came later. The name Amoc comes from the words Aanaar (Inari)
Master of the Ceremony. Subject matter for the lyrics came from
his own life, but they are not necessarily all true.
He has had about 80 performances until now
in various occasions in Finland, Sweden and Norway and the most
distant in Paris. Amoc performs sometimes alone and sometimes with
the Inari Sámi rapper Ružž (Jukka Kangasniemi).
He also performs with the group called Guerra Norte.
Television documentaries of Amoc have been
produced and he has also been a guest on tv programs.
Amoc has been present in the following recorded
productions:
1. Hannibal ja Soppa: "Pahat viinit" (Bad Wine) in his
song "Kulmat huudit: Sajeh".
2. Ezkimo: "Vaa amcee", with Guerra Norte in his song
"Se nimi pita tuntee" (You Have to Know its Name).
3. A record compilation "Lappi itsenäiseksi" (For
an Independent Lapland) (Mixtape Vol. 1) in his songs "Suusta
lentää sammakoita" (Frogs Fly from the Mouth) and
"Sankarihousut session" (Hero-pants Session).
4. A recording by Ambassa soon to be released, in a song called
"Haulikon kantama" (Carrying a Shotgun) and "Rautanyrkki"
(Iron Fist).
